Dear Future Content Requestors,
I know you want me to film, but here's what I'm asking instead.
You know your a customer if you’re asking for the following:
My time and skills with a camera or drone in my hands.
My presence at your event. Especially if it’s more than just coffee or a meeting.
Dear customers,
I’m tired of selling photos and video as a service. I’d like to switch to selling it as a product.
With the rise of NFTs (and I know you may not know much about these yet, but bear with me) I’d like to try selling NFT photos and NFT videos for you to buy after an event is over.
I’d like to provide a service to accompany those NFTs. But the first thing you buy are the NFTs.
I’m sure you’re familiar with Web2 ideas to use these art pieces.
Web2 options like using the photos for your website, or posting content for Instagram, or in your marketing campaigns such as testimonials.
It just doesn’t appeal to me anymore.
So often you get to tell me “this is our budget” and I have to work with it.
Maybe I do and maybe I don’t, but did you ever think to ask what your community is willing to pay for these products?
NO?
I get it, it wasn’t until now that it feels simple to me .
It’s essentially getting everyone to vote… and do you really do that in your community as a whole?
Must don’t. But it’s okay, it’s about to be the thing to do for 2022.
This year is being predicted as the year of DAOs.
A decentralized autonomous organization is broken into different categories: treasury being a big one—and what you do with that treasury is where some voting opens up to your community.
Why would you want this?
IT’S AN INCENTIVE!
Give a dog a bone and he’ll wag his tail and be happy.
Give your community a chance to be involved in a deeper way and you’re freeing yourself from lots of the burdens “only you” can do.
Let’s be real, you don’t need to be the one doing EVERYTHING.
I have a little side story but I swear it’s worth it…
I witnessed something incredible last night.
It was a DAO event here in Austin, TX. Our very own ATX DAO was hosting a party, on a rooftop downtown, and at the event people were “officially becoming” members by buying an NFT.
That NFT was being sold for .65 $ETH 😉.
That $ETH goes to funding the treasury, which decides on whether or not they should throw parties or put that money towards other initiatives such as making Austin a more crypto friendly city.
ATX DAO has official leaders of each division (business development, governance, community manager, marketing, etc.).I believe they voted on those positions? Don’t quote me on that, but owning this NFT will open future votes to it’s holders.
Think about this for a second, especially if you’re a community organizer and business owner.
This is Web3 beginnings.
Web 3 ideas go deeper and opens up some new doors as far as learning about who in your community is also interested, depths to the point they are willing to pay .65 $ETH (around $2k when I’m writing this) SO THEY CAN VOTE and contribute and get rewarded for it.
Look, right now I’m in it for the royalties, but I see the applications coming to life.
Web3 projects are using NFTs as a ticket—giving them access to new ways of engagement.
I think I’m speaking to the brands that are looking to expand but can’t seem to work out a vision of how to make that happen.
To be frank, I get frustrated when my photos get passed around on Instagram and I don’t get rewarded for it.
For the past five years, getting tagged on Instagram has contributed to such a small proportion to my sales. Like, it’s really low.
BIG PROJECTS have killed it. Because those are unique and stand out. AND SO DO NFTs!
Alright what’s this look like for real?
Let’s talk numbers…
If a group of 25 people go on a retreat and the retreat yields $30k in revenue, and there are 6 people working the event and we split our share equally, let’s say that’s $10k total:
$10k / 6 = $1,667 for all the facilitators.
Well instead of paying me that for my time and service and all the content I shoot, I’d rather work on a release of 5-25 NFTs where the floor price of selling them all hits $1,667 instead.
This really only works for me if you’re moving into the Web3 world.
If you’re not there yet, keep following along and reading, because this Web3 world isn’t going away.
This model includes time, which is crazy.
If the floor price of these NFTs are 25 $MATIC today that’s worth like $50 USD a piece, but in the future, the price of $MATIC could be higher.
It’s a lot to think about, so I think I’ll stop here… BUT.
Your fans just confirmed they have a wallet and are moving with you into Web3.
Boom! Your journey is starting.
I rarely get paid for the advertising value for people’s brands. Maybe I’m not pricing things right.
I’d like to try and figure this new model of being paid for a product instead of a service.
This is part of the creator & ownership economies that Web3 is bringing.
